Imaging Techniques in Stereotactic Radiosurgery

چکیده

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) involves the delivery of a very precise, focal dose of radiation to a target. Radiologic imaging is crucial for accurate delineation of the treatment volume in order to achieve maximal dose to the target and optimal sparing of the normal surrounding tissue. Conventional imaging refl ects only anatomic rather than functional properties of the tumor. In contrast, metabolic and physiologic imaging provides in vivo measures of tumor tissue properties. In this chapter, physiologic MR imaging techniques including proton spectroscopy, blood volume, blood fl ow, vascular permeability, diffusion, and diffusion tensor imaging, as well as metabolic PET imaging, will be described. Although SRS treatment has been established for many years, recent advances in modern imaging combined with improved radiotherapy techniques can provide better target defi nition, reduce normal tissue toxicity, and provide better assessment of treatment response. This chapter describes the role of novel MR and PET imaging in the treatment planning and posttreatment follow-up of both malignant and benign central nervous system (CNS) intracranial tumors. Stereotactic Radiosurgery/Radiotherapy: A Historical Review

"Stereotactic" is an exact radiotherapy treatment modality which implements invasive and non-invasive facilities for improving precise dose delivery. Stereotactic refers to three-dimensional localization of a specific point in space by a unique set of coordinates that relate to a fixed external reference frame. An accurate delivery of radiation is attainable using these techniques with high pre...

Development of A Head Docking Device for Linac-based Stereotactic Radiosurgery System to be Installed on Neptun 10 PC Linac

Introduction:  Stereotactic  radiosurgery  is  a  technique  for  the  treatment  of  intracranial  lesions  with  highly  collimated  x-ray  beam.  Linac-based  radiosurgery  is  currently  performed  by  two  techniques:  couch or pedestal mounted. In the first technique, a device is required to affix patient's head to a couch  and  moreover  to  translate  it  accurately.  Structure  of  suc...

Application of Time-Resolved 3D Digital Subtraction Angiography to Plan Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation Radiosurgery.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Time-resolved 3D-DSA (4D-DSA) enables viewing vasculature from any desired angle and time frame. We investigated whether these advantages may facilitate treatment planning and the feasibility of using 4D-DSA as a single imaging technique in AVM/dural arteriovenous fistula radiosurgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty consecutive patients (8 dural arteriovenous fistulas and...

CT Perfusion Imaging as an Early Biomarker of Differential Response to Stereotactic Radiosurgery in C6 Rat Gliomas

BACKGROUND The therapeutic efficacy of stereotactic radiosurgery for glioblastoma is not well understood, and there needs to be an effective biomarker to identify patients who might benefit from this treatment. This study investigated the efficacy of computed tomography (CT) perfusion imaging as an early imaging biomarker of response to stereotactic radiosurgery in a malignant rat glioma model....
